When I started my business at 40, I had three major insecurities: my age, my lack of a four-year degree, and my non-existent social presence. These weren’t small “oh that’s just quirky” things—they were deep doubts that made me feel like I didn’t belong in the online business world.
But here’s what happened: over time, each one turned into a serious asset.
My Age Made Me Relatable
I was nervous to say I was 40 when I launched my biz. But now at 48, I realize how that life experience helps me connect with my clients, many of whom are juggling businesses, kids, and the chaos of life.
Turns out, not being 22 is a good thing.
No Degree, No Problem
I never finished college, and I carried shame around that for years. But not a single client has ever asked about it. I now work with doctors, therapists, and PhDs—and they trust me to guide their messaging. That degree I thought I needed? It’s never come up.
Zero Social Presence Became a Brand Strength
I had no social media presence when I started (unless you count my fake Facebook name!). But learning from scratch taught me how to create content that feels like me—and people notice. “Not flashy, but real” is the exact reason many follow me now.
Even My Empathy Became an Asset
I used to think my empathy made me “too sensitive” for business. But that same trait helps me understand my clients and their ideal customers on a deeper level, which makes my copy better and my launches stronger.
