Hosting a Summit: The Honest Pros and Cons

If you’re thinking about hosting a summit, you’re probably picturing big list growth, new collaborations, and a buzzing community.

And yes, that part is real. I know, because I’ve run my event, Behind the Launch 6 times.

But so is the workload.

Before you commit to hosting a summit, let’s talk about what actually happens behind the scenes because the pros are incredible, but the trade-offs are very real too.

Why Hosting a Summit Can Be Powerful

When you’re hosting a summit, you create momentum.

You rally people around one topic, bring experts together, and create energy inside your community.

And yes—hosting a summit can grow your email list fast.

In my case, about 80% of my sales come from email. So when I can grow my list by hundreds of people at once, that’s not just vanity growth. That’s future revenue.

Hosting a summit also opens doors:

  • Collaborations that turn into affiliate partnerships
  • Conversations with industry leaders you might not otherwise meet
  • Increased brand authority in your niche

But here’s what doesn’t get talked about enough…

The Real Work of Hosting a Summit

Hosting a summit is not a “set it and forget it” strategy.

You need:

  • Registration page copy
  • Promotional email sequences
  • Swipe copy for speakers
  • Contracts and asset collection
  • Tech automations
  • Editing and publishing timelines

And that’s before promotion even begins.

If you’re planning on hosting a summit, give yourself at least 90–120 days. Between securing speakers, recording interviews, and building your promotional plan, you’ll need it.

The earlier you ask speakers, the more likely they are to say yes.

Hosting a Summit Requires Support

If you’re serious about hosting a summit, don’t do it alone.

Having a speaker concierge, backend tech support, and design help makes a massive difference. Could you DIY it? Possibly. But your capacity will be the bottleneck.

And there’s another piece no one loves to admit: sometimes you’ll have to follow up. More than once.

It’s not glamorous. But it’s part of running a collaborative event with integrity.

Is Hosting a Summit Worth It?

Here’s how I look at hosting a summit:

Yes, it’s work and it can feel overwhelming at times.

But the trade-off?

List growth.
Authority.
Partnerships.
Community momentum.

If you go in with clear expectations — and enough runway — it can absolutely be worth it.
