Summer Marketing: Why You Suddenly Want to Burn It All Down

Every June, I have the same thought:

Maybe I hate my marketing.

Maybe I need a completely different strategy.

Maybe I should disappear from the internet for three months.

If you’ve ever had those thoughts, you’re not alone.

The funny thing is that after several years of experiencing it, I’ve realized it isn’t actually a business problem. It’s a summer marketing problem.

As soon as the weather changes, routines disappear, vacations begin, and life shifts outside, many business owners find themselves questioning everything. The content that felt exciting in March suddenly feels exhausting. The strategies that worked in the spring feel heavy.

But what if the answer isn’t doing more?

What if the answer is doing less — on purpose?

Why Summer Marketing Feels Different

Summer creates a unique challenge for business owners.

You’re still responsible for growing your business, but your energy and priorities naturally shift. Family schedules change. Travel opportunities appear. Even your audience starts spending less time online.

Instead of fighting that reality, it’s worth asking whether your current summer marketing plan actually supports the season you’re in.

The goal isn’t to disappear.

The goal is to create a strategy that feels sustainable.

Summer Marketing Question #1: What Feels Easy?

One of the most useful questions I ask myself each summer is:

“What feels easy right now?”

For me, email marketing feels easy. Community conversations feel easy. Guest speaking feels easy.

Your answer may be completely different.

The point isn’t finding the perfect marketing channel. It’s identifying the activities you can consistently show up for without creating unnecessary friction.

Summer Marketing Question #2: What’s Actually Working?

This is where data becomes your best friend.

Many business owners continue spending time on marketing activities simply because they feel like they should.

Instead, look at what’s driving results.

Some channels may be producing leads and sales consistently. Others may be consuming time without creating meaningful growth.

A few areas to evaluate:

  • Which summer marketing activities generate inquiries?
  • Which channels bring qualified leads?
  • Which platforms feel sustainable to maintain?
  • Which could you pause temporarily?

Sometimes the most productive decision is letting go of something for a season.

Summer Marketing Question #3: What Can You Reuse?

One of the biggest misconceptions in marketing is that every piece of content must be brand new.

It doesn’t.

Your audience is busy. Most people haven’t seen everything you’ve created.

That means old emails, podcast episodes, social posts, and teaching content can often be repurposed and shared again with excellent results.

Reusing content allows your summer marketing plan to stay active without requiring constant creation.

A Smarter Summer Marketing Approach

If you’re feeling tired, uninspired, or stretched thin, consider this your permission slip to simplify.

Focus on what’s easy.

Double down on what’s working.

Recycle content you’ve already created.

The businesses that build long-term momentum aren’t necessarily doing the most. They’re doing the right things consistently — even during seasons when life looks different.

Ready to rethink your strategy and build a business that works with your life instead of against it? Listen to the full episode and discover how a simpler summer marketing approach can create more freedom without sacrificing growth.
