Cohort vs Evergreen Programs: Why I’m Making the Switch
If you’ve ever wondered whether your program should stay cohort-based or move to an evergreen model, you’re not alone.
The cohort vs evergreen programs debate comes up constantly in the online business world, and for good reason. What works at one stage of business may not work at the next.
Recently, I made a big decision: after nine successful cohorts of the Pre-Launch Plan Program, I’m transitioning the program to an evergreen model.
But this wasn’t a quick decision.
Why Cohort vs Evergreen Programs Matters More Than You Think
When people discuss cohort vs evergreen programs, they often focus on what sounds easier or more scalable.
The reality?
Both models can work beautifully.
Cohorts create built-in urgency. Enrollment opens and closes. Students move through the material together. Community naturally develops.
Evergreen programs offer accessibility. People can join when they’re ready rather than waiting months for the next opening.
Neither approach is automatically better.
The question is whether the model supports your goals right now.
What I Learned From Running Cohort vs Evergreen Programs
After years of running cohorts, I noticed two important things:
- I was regularly turning away people who were ready to buy.
- My growth potential was capped by enrollment windows and seat limits.
- I loved the community experience cohorts created.
- I wanted more flexibility in how revenue flowed through the business.
These aren’t necessarily problems every business owner faces.
But they were becoming important factors for me.
Key Takeaways About Cohort vs Evergreen Programs
- The best cohort vs evergreen programs decision depends on your current business stage.
- Cohorts naturally create urgency and shared momentum.
- Evergreen programs require a more consistent lead-generation system.
- Revenue goals often influence which model makes the most sense.
There’s more nuance here than most people talk about, especially when audience size, delivery style, and lifestyle goals enter the conversation.
Sometimes the most productive decision is letting go of something for a season.
How Cohort vs Evergreen Programs Support Different Growth Goals
One of the biggest misconceptions in marketing is that every piece of content must be brand new.
It doesn’t.
Your audience is busy. Most people haven’t seen everything you’ve created.
That means old emails, podcast episodes, social posts, and teaching content can often be repurposed and shared again with excellent results.
Reusing content allows your summer marketing plan to stay active without requiring constant creation.
